UPDATE ON ALD FORDSON VAN, Well , most things are fitted and working but as the radiator decided to piddle all over the garage floor on its first fillup in 30 yrs , I am eagerly awaiting the radiator back from SCOTRAD , 410 GORGIE RD , EDINBURGH. Where it will undergo a full recore. front floors are fitted in 18mm ply and all metal floorpans/firewalls are fitted . the van was lowered off the axlestands yesterday after putting the wheels back on . took it outside and gave it a wash, very carefully as i have no windscreen in it yet and no roof as it takes a few bodies to fit the roof and trying to get enough bodies at the same time can prove difficult due to work commitments , fingers crossed i would like to attend the stirling show even if i take it on a trailer lol , handbrake is now fitted as is the new speedo cable, all gauges look like they are working , charging at 13.7v, so finally i have to fit the windscreen, roof, radiator and hoses, and tidy up some loose ends , hope to update you all later in the week , GB

Fraser, had a wee coolant issue myself, managed to get a very good quality radiator cap from a mate of mine who deals in Classic parts, it sorted my problem out, he has various caps of different pressures and fitting etc, I can give you his details if your cap is playing up

Hi Fraser,

Hope you had a great day, and car behaved, did you get lots of pictures. One of the lads that works with us has a Ford Escort 1987 (E) Reg Auto, light blue with Cosworth wheels, you might have seen it.

That's a shame JD.

My Viva won't be there either, cylinder head is off at the moment and I have some pitting issues with the block which we are trying to resolve. Old cars!!!!!

Hi Fraser, if it's pitting on the block face we used to use a surface plate(quite heavy)turned upside down
& a sheet of emery cloth to recover the block face, just drawing it back & forth. The surface plate keeps
everything flat. Mr Haddow may know where a surface plate could be borrowed, good luck,JD.

Hello JD,

Read your post re water pump bearing failure, was it a new one (poss old stock), or used ??, one thing I've found is not to fit the belt too tight (1/2 inch of play) on the longest distance between two pulleys is a good benchmark. have had this happen too as a result of fitting belt too tight, shame it's happened, good luck getting it sorted out

Hello Fraser,

See the cylinder head is off the car, is the pitting on the block or head, what was happening ? water oil mix, water loss, oil leak or compression transfer from cylinder to cylinder ??.

Tom
